Slovak ICOM as one of the national committees of ICOM – an international institution for museums and museum professionals, aimed at protecting the cultural and natural heritage of humanity, both tangible and intangible, and communicating its value to the public, sets the following goals:
- Representing the interests of Slovak museums, galleries, and other collecting institutions, as well as museum professionals.
- Establishing professional and ethical standards for the activities of museums, galleries, and collecting institutions in line with the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums, issuing recommendations, promoting education, and specialized knowledge, and supporting the growth of cultural awareness through cooperation programs.
- Promoting the founding, development, and professional management of museums and galleries; organizing cooperation and assistance among museums and their staff.
- Facilitating cooperation, mutual assistance, and the exchange of information among organization members.
- Supporting the expansion of ICOM membership from among the staff of museums and galleries in Slovakia.
- Representing the interests of members to the ICOM General Secretariat, as well as to other professional organizations, museum founders, and other institutions.
- Organizing ICOM activities in Slovakia.
- Cooperating with ICOM’s international committees and with national and international organizations working in the field of museums or uniting their staff.
